Pay's okay, but benefits could improve
Pros: As a Software Engineer at this SaaS company, the health insurance is surprisingly good. They cover most of the premium, which is a big plus. PTO is also pretty standard, you get a decent amount for a startup.
Cons: Base salary for my role isn't super competitive, especially for someone remote from Austin. There's no 401k match at all, which feels like a big miss. Annual bonuses are pretty rare too, don't count on them.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the compensation bands for engineering roles to be more competitive, particularly for remote employees in high-cost-of-living areas. Implementing a 401k match would also greatly improve employee retention and satisfaction.

Okay benefits, but pay needs work.
Pros: The health insurance is actually decent, which is a big plus for a smaller company. They offer solid paid time off, and the remote work flexibility is great for my work-life balance as a Software Engineer.
Cons: Salary for engineering roles here isn't the most competitive compared to bigger tech. There's no performance bonus or stock options, which is a bummer. I also wish they'd review compensation more regularly.
Advice to Management: Revisit salary bands for all positions, especially for engineering roles, to be more competitive in the current market. Consider introducing some form of equity or performance bonuses to attract and retain top talent in this competitive tech industry.

Junior Software Engineer

Okay for starters, but growth can be slow
Pros: It's a solid place to learn core skills as a Junior Software Engineer. You get to touch a lot of different parts of the product, which is good exposure for a tech startup. The remote work setup from Chicago was great for my schedule.
Cons: Honestly, career growth feels pretty slow here. There aren't clear pathways for software development roles, so it's tough to see your next steps. You really have to push hard to get new responsibilities or promotions.
Advice to Management: Build clearer career frameworks and expectations, especially for engineering. Help define next steps for junior and mid-level software development roles.
