Solid Place for a Tech Career in Defence
Pros: I've really enjoyed my time here as a Software Engineer. The learning opportunities in defence technology are fantastic, with access to cutting-edge projects and great colleagues who are always willing to share knowledge. The job security is a big plus in this stable environment, and I feel like my work contributes to something important for Singapore's defence. The work-life balance is also quite reasonable, which is appreciated.
Cons: While there are good career development paths, the promotion process can feel a bit slow compared to the private sector, which might be typical for a government agency. Sometimes, getting approvals for new initiatives can take longer than ideal due to organizational procedures. Communication could also be more streamlined across different departments.
Advice to Management: Continue to foster career development paths and explore ways to streamline internal approval processes to accelerate project execution and innovation.

Great Place for Learning and Stable Career in Tech
Pros: DSTA offers solid career development in the defence tech sector. I've gained so much experience working on complex engineering projects. The learning curve is steep but very rewarding, especially with the opportunities for training and upskilling. Colleagues are generally supportive and collaborative, which makes tackling challenges much easier. It's a stable environment, which I really appreciate in the public sector.
Cons: Like any large public sector organization, things can sometimes move a bit slower due to bureaucratic processes. Approvals can take time, which might impact project timelines occasionally. Also, while compensation is fair, it might not always match the very top private tech firms for the same level of expertise.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining some of the internal approval processes to enhance project agility and responsiveness. Continue investing in cutting-edge technology and talent development programs.
