Solid Stability, Culture Needs a Boost
Pros: I've worked on some genuinely interesting defense tech projects as a Software Engineer here. The benefits are pretty decent for a large corporate company, and there's good job security. It's a stable place to be.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit traditional and slow-moving at times. It's not the most vibrant or innovative environment. The hybrid work structure, even in the Reston, VA office, sometimes feels like you're just doing video calls in person.
Advice to Management: Management should focus on fostering a more dynamic and collaborative company culture. Empower teams more and work on streamlining some of the internal processes to avoid bureaucracy, especially for our engineering roles.

Okay Pay, Benefits Could Be Better
Pros: The base salary for a Software Engineer is competitive, especially compared to smaller firms. You get a pretty solid pension plan which is a big plus. Job security in these government contracts is generally very good.
Cons: The bonus structure isn't great; it's quite small and often feels arbitrary. Other benefits like healthcare aren't as generous as some other big tech companies. Incremental raises don't keep up with inflation, which is tough.
Advice to Management: Review the bonus structure and consider enhancing health and wellness benefits to attract and retain top talent in cybersecurity roles.

Decent place for defense tech, but hybrid model
Pros: You get solid projects in cyber security, especially for government contracting roles. The hybrid model does offer some flexibility when your team is understanding. Most Software Engineers can manage their 40 hour weeks.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't always great here. Onsite requirements are getting stricter in the Reston, VA office, which feels unnecessary sometimes. It impacts work-life balance when you're commuting for meetings that could easily be remote.
Advice to Management: Reconsider the onsite policy. Trust teams to decide what work flexibility works best for them. Focus on output and results, not just requiring desk time.
