We’re Kogan.com - pioneers of Australian e-commerce.

We were born in a south-eastern suburb Melbourne garage in 2006 from a young entrepreneur's idea to revolutionise the supply-chain to make the latest products more affordable. Now, we’re the largest Australian pure-play online retail website with hundreds of thousands of visitors each day and a customer base of millions of Aussie and New Zealand shoppers.

Our success is built off technology and digital efficiency to make the most in-demand products and services more affordable and accessible for all.

We love being pushed outside our comfort zone and being challenged to continuously deliver the best value to our customers and that sets us apart from the rest.

Hybrid model is okay, but could be better
Pros: The hybrid work model is pretty solid here. You get some WFH options, which is a big plus for work-life balance, especially for tech roles. Being able to mix days in the Melbourne office with remote days helps a lot.
Cons: However, work flexibility isn't as great as I'd hoped. As a Junior Software Engineer, I often feel like my team has less say in our specific schedule. There's definitely pressure to be in the office more than two days, even when tasks could easily be done from home, which feels a bit rigid for an e-commerce company.
Advice to Management: Management should really review the actual implementation of the hybrid model. Give teams more autonomy over their schedules, especially for those in tech roles who can clearly work effectively remotely. Don't just offer flexibility; empower employees to use it.

Kogan.com: Expect Long Hours in E-commerce
Pros: The team in the Melbourne office is pretty supportive. You learn a ton about online retail strategies quickly. Plus, sometimes there's a bit of flexibility with hybrid work, which helps on quieter days.
Cons: Work-life balance here is tough, especially for Marketing Specialist roles during major sales events. It's common to work well over 40 hours a week leading up to peak seasons. The workload can feel relentless.
Advice to Management: Management needs to address the intense workload, especially for operational and marketing teams. More realistic staffing would improve employee well-being and reduce burnout.

Good start, but don't expect much growth
Pros: It's a decent place to get your foot in the door in the eCommerce industry. You get a lot of hands-on experience quickly, especially for marketing coordinator roles. Good for learning the basics if you're fresh out of university.
Cons: There isn't much in terms of structured career development paths. Internal promotion is really tough; I didn't see many people move up while I was in the Melbourne office. You pretty much hit a ceiling after a year or two.
Advice to Management: Invest in proper career frameworks and training programs. Make internal promotions more visible and accessible. People want to see a future here beyond just entry-level roles.
