Good for learning, grow your own career path
Pros: You get good exposure to many client projects, which is great for learning new tech stacks in digital transformation. As a Software Developer, you're constantly tackling diverse agile projects. The team in the Vancouver office is generally supportive and helpful.
Cons: Internal career growth isn't always structured. You've got to really advocate for promotions and new responsibilities. Sometimes it feels like you're learning but not moving up the ladder within the company, especially with the hybrid model reducing face time for mentorship.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating clearer, more transparent internal promotion pathways and dedicated mentorship programs for all levels, especially for engineering roles. Make sure the hybrid work model doesn't hinder career progression discussions.

Hybrid Work Is Decent, But Not Super Flexible
Pros: The hybrid work model is pretty good for a software development company. As a Software Engineer, having a couple of remote days each week helps a lot with deep work. It's nice to avoid the Vancouver commute a few times.
Cons: The 'required' 3 days in the Vancouver office can feel strict sometimes. There isn't much wiggle room if you need an extra WFH day for personal reasons. It's more of a set hybrid schedule than actual work flexibility.
Advice to Management: Consider making the hybrid policy more truly flexible. Maybe let teams decide their in-office days or offer more options beyond a fixed 3/2 split for roles like a Software Engineer. It could really boost morale.

Leadership has its moments, good and bad
Pros: Some of the team leads and engineering managers are really supportive, which is great for day-to-day project work. They try hard to foster a good environment for software development. Plus, the hybrid model for work is pretty flexible, which helps with work-life balance.
Cons: However, senior leadership feels a bit disconnected from ground-level teams. Communication about company direction and big decisions can be spotty, which is tough for long-term career growth. It feels like they don't always fully understand the challenges we face as Software Engineers in the Vancouver office.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent with company-wide decisions and actively seek feedback from individual contributors. It would really help bridge the gap between senior leadership and the project teams, especially for us working on client digital transformation projects.
