Pros: Amgen has been a great place for learning as a Research Associate in biotech. I work with really smart, supportive colleagues in Thousand Oaks, CA. The company is stable, and there are good resources for career development. The science is truly innovative, and the hybrid work model helps with balance.
Cons: Sometimes the approval processes can feel a bit slow given the company's size. It's a large biopharmaceutical organization, so things don't always move as quickly as you might hope, especially for internal project changes.
Advice to Management: Streamline some of the internal approval processes to allow for faster project adjustments and implementation, especially for R&D initiatives.

Pros: It's a really stable gig in the biopharmaceutical sector, which is great. As an Associate Scientist, I've had good opportunities to work on interesting R&D projects. Plus, the Thousand Oaks office offers decent WFH flexibility, which helps with work-life balance.
Cons: The big corporate culture can be a real drag. Decisions for scientific development often move super slow with so many layers of approval. Sometimes it feels like bureaucracy hinders progress, especially compared to smaller biotech companies.
Advice to Management: Try to empower project teams more for faster decision-making, especially in scientific development. Cutting down on some of the corporate red tape would really boost morale and efficiency.

Pros: The pay and benefits are really solid, especially for the biotechnology industry. We get good PTO and a decent hybrid model, which helps a lot. As an Associate Scientist, the tasks can be engaging and you learn a lot.
Cons: Work-life balance here can swing wildly. Some weeks are 40 hours, but others, especially during critical project phases in drug development, can easily hit 50-60. It's tough when your manager expects you online late.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize expectations around working hours across different R&D teams. Some managers really push boundaries, which burns people out in the long run. Support actual work-life boundaries.
