Remote Work is Good, but Flexibility Varies
Pros: I liked the remote option for my Software Engineer role. Being able to work from home really helps with my daily schedule and avoiding the Austin, TX commute. It's a solid perk for most engineering jobs in the e-commerce platform space.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't always consistent. Some managers are great, but others push for more specific core hours, which isn't ideal for a truly 'remote' setup. The 'work from anywhere' motto isn't fully true for all teams.
Advice to Management: Standardize remote and hybrid work policies across all teams. Don't leave so much discretion to individual managers; it causes inconsistencies and frustration for employees, especially in technical roles.

Hybrid Model Works Okay, Room for Improvement
Pros: I've been able to maintain a good hybrid work schedule as a Software Engineer, usually 2-3 days in the Austin office. It's nice not being fully remote for collaboration, but still having WFH days. The flexibility in the tech industry here is decent.
Cons: Sometimes the 'required' in-office days feel a bit arbitrary, especially for individual contributor tasks. There's not a lot of true flexibility outside of the set hybrid schedule. It can be tough if you need to adjust last minute.
Advice to Management: Consider more trust and true flexibility in work arrangements, especially for seasoned employees. Make the in-office days more intentional for team collaboration.

Decent Remote Work, But Job Security Is a Concern
Pros: Working as a Software Engineer for this e-commerce platform remotely has its perks. You get to avoid a commute, which is great. The initial projects are pretty engaging.
Cons: Job security isn't its strong suit. There have been several rounds of layoffs for tech roles, which really makes you nervous. It's tough when you see colleagues go without much warning, especially in this mid-sized tech environment.
Advice to Management: Be more transparent about company performance and future plans to help ease employee concerns about job security. Communication could really be better.
