Job Summary

We are looking for someone to dealing primarily with leading edge space domain awareness systems and custom observatories in Australia and overseas.

In this role you will be involved in a wide range of opto-electronic systems with a range of electronic control and instrumentation sub-systems. Some examples of these are advanced optical ground stations for with optical telescopes, electronic control, and instrumentation sub-systems.

Successful candidates will undertake optical design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance. Also, writing technical documentation and reporting is also part of the routine.

Primary Duties

The job plays a pivotal role in EOS Space Systems R&D team, assisting with the development of new optical subsystems, primarily electro-optic sensors for ground-to-space applications.

You will provide expertise in optical design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of new optical subsystems, primarily electro-optic sensors for ground-to-space applications. Includes optical design, component specification, assembly, optical alignment, and optimisation.
  • Work alongside other engineering disciplines (electronics, software, mechanical) and communicate system requirements.
  • Contribute to the Instrumentation of cutting-edge opto-electronics subsystems.
  • Combine novel technologies or concepts to support the innovation and development of EOS IP.
  • Support the Engineering teams and communicate activity and progress to the respective discipline manager and VPs.
  • Undertake and document investigative experiments to inform the company’s research activities.
  • Assist the general improvement of knowledge and capability within the group.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics/Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with optical design or optical instrumentation.
  • Experience with the alignment and operation of complex optical systems.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance.
  • Post graduate qualifications or previous industry experience is desirable.
  • Experience with optical design software Zemax is desirable.
  • Experience with Adaptive Optics is highly desirable
  • Experience with laser systems is desirable.
  • Experience combining multiple technical disciplines, e.g. electronics and mechanics, mathematics and software, opto-electronics etc is desirable.
