Work-Life Balance is Team Dependent
Pros: The decent work-life balance for some teams is a real perk here, especially for a big tech company. As a Senior Software Engineer, I usually wrapped up my tasks within standard hours, which was nice.
Cons: However, it's pretty dependent on your specific project and manager in the semiconductor industry. Some groups are constantly working overtime, even with the hybrid work model, making it tough to truly disconnect.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize workloads across different engineering teams. The disparity in hours makes it hard to plan and causes resentment among employees.

Pay is just okay, benefits are decent
Pros: The health insurance is really good. It covers a lot, which is a big plus here. There's also a decent 401k match, solid for a big tech company.
Cons: Salary for a Software Engineer is just okay. It's not super competitive with other semiconductor industry firms. I feel underpaid in the San Jose office, honestly.
Advice to Management: Management should really review compensation bands for engineering roles, especially for a Software Engineer in high-cost areas like San Jose. It's tough to retain talent when other companies pay so much more in the semiconductor industry.

Okay flexibility, but depends on your manager
Pros: You sometimes get flexibility for personal appointments, which is a big plus. Some teams, particularly in software, do use a better hybrid model. There's a solid support system if you need to adjust hours for a specific, urgent reason.
Cons: True WFH days are rare for many roles, especially for us in manufacturing support as a Process Engineer. It's often required to be onsite due to equipment access in the semiconductor fabs. The official policy is flexible, but it doesn't always play out that way in practice, pushing most people to almost full-time onsite work.
Advice to Management: Rethink the actual implementation of flexible work policies. Managers need more autonomy and clear guidelines to offer genuine hybrid or WFH options where possible. Recognize that not every role needs 100% onsite presence, even in the semiconductor industry.
