Leadership tries, but execution is tough
Pros: Some senior managers genuinely care about employees, especially for us working remotely. I've had decent support from my direct lead as a Software Engineer. The company culture in pockets is pretty solid for a mid-sized company, and the engineering teams are great.
Cons: Overall leadership struggles with a clear vision, which makes it hard for teams to prioritize. There's a lot of talk about strategy, but not much follow-through. It feels like different departments aren't always on the same page, causing confusion and rework in IT solutions development.
Advice to Management: Work on clearer, more consistent communication from the top. Get everyone aligned on goals and stick to them. It would make a huge difference for morale and productivity across all the teams, especially in how new IT solutions are rolled out.

Flexibility is a real sticking point here
Pros: The benefits package is pretty solid, especially health insurance. Teams in the New York City office are generally good people to work with, and there's a decent sense of job security in this corporate environment. You learn a lot if you're new to financial services software.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't great for us as Software Engineers. The hybrid model feels pretty rigid, and getting approval for true remote work options is a constant battle. It feels like they're stuck in older ways of working for the IT solutions department.
Advice to Management: Please rethink the approach to work flexibility for technical roles. Trust your employees more with remote work options; it'll boost morale and likely productivity. Update policies for the modern workplace.

Work-life balance is okay, but can be tough.
Pros: I like the flexibility of being a remote Software Engineer; it saves so much commute time. The team is usually supportive, which helps when project deadlines get crazy. We get decent benefits too, like good health insurance.
Cons: The work-life balance here is often a struggle, especially for those in the FinTech industry. It feels like there's constant pressure to work long hours, sometimes past 5 PM, making it hard to disconnect. My previous mid-sized corporate role had better boundaries.
Advice to Management: Management needs to really look at workload distribution, especially for Software Engineers. Encourage teams to disconnect after hours. It's important for employee well-being and long-term retention in this competitive FinTech market.

Decent tech company, but WLB is a struggle
Pros: The hybrid model helps with flexibility, especially in the New York City office. You can mostly stick to 40 hours as a Software Engineer if you're really good at setting boundaries. It's not the absolute worst in the demanding IT services industry.
Cons: Project deadlines mean longer nights are common for engineering roles. Management often pushes really aggressive timelines. Those remote from home days sometimes blend into working extra hours.
Advice to Management: Try to set more realistic project expectations and timelines. Don't constantly overload the engineering teams; it burns people out. A better work-life balance would really help morale.
