Okay Work-Life, Tough for Production Engineers
Pros: Standard shifts are fairly consistent, so you usually know when you're done for the day. It's a big corporate company, so there are established processes, which can sometimes make planning easier.
Cons: Mandatory overtime is common, especially when we're pushing for those tight project delivery dates. For roles like Production Engineer in marine manufacturing, weekend work isn't rare, and it really impacts your personal life. It's tough to get a good work-life balance when you're always on call.
Advice to Management: Management should really look at staffing levels for production roles. Reducing mandatory overtime for us Production Engineers would make a big difference for morale and reduce burnout.

Decent Work, But Projects Drive Security
Pros: They often have a good pipeline of defense contracts, so for us marine engineers, there's usually work. It feels pretty stable being part of a larger, established shipbuilding company in Balamban, Cebu.
Cons: Job security really depends on new shipbuilding contracts coming in. If projects slow down, you can feel that pressure, especially in the Balamban shipyard. It's not always a continuous flow for skilled workers.
Advice to Management: Try to communicate more clearly about future project pipelines and how that impacts staffing for skilled shipyard workers. Transparency helps manage expectations.

Tough to get flexible hours here
Pros: You're definitely hands-on with real projects. For engineering roles, it's good experience in the naval shipbuilding sector and you learn a lot about maritime production.
Cons: Work flexibility is almost non-existent for onsite teams. There's no remote work option, and even small schedule changes are a big deal. It's strictly 8-5, no exceptions.
Advice to Management: Consider introducing some form of hybrid work or at least flexible hours for non-production staff. It would really help with morale for engineering and design teams in this competitive shipbuilding industry.
