Feazer's Work-Life Balance is Just Okay
Pros: For a big tech company, the work-life balance for Software Engineer roles can be pretty decent if you're on a well-managed team. The hybrid work model (3 days in the Seattle office) really helps break up the week and gives some personal time. I appreciate that some managers actually enforce no-meeting Fridays.
Cons: It's definitely not consistent across all engineering teams; some push very hard, especially during release cycles, leading to 50+ hour weeks. True work flexibility can be an issue as core hours are still strictly enforced, even with the hybrid setup. Junior engineers often feel pressured to overwork to prove themselves.
Advice to Management: Encourage all managers to respect personal time and protect employees from constant urgent requests, especially outside of core working hours. Clarify expectations around 'hybrid' to ensure it actually promotes flexibility, not just mandated office time.

Okay Flexibility, But Team Dependent
Pros: As a Software Engineer, I did get decent work-from-home options a couple days a week, which was a big plus for my commute in San Francisco. The hybrid model worked fine for my team; it wasn't super strict about specific days. This helped a lot with personal appointments.
Cons: However, there wasn't real flexibility when project deadlines hit hard in our big tech environment. Sometimes I felt like remote work was tolerated, not fully embraced, especially for client-facing roles. Some managers really pushed for more in-office time even with the hybrid policy.
Advice to Management: Really solidify the hybrid policies across all departments. Make sure all managers are on the same page about work flexibility, especially for technical roles like engineering, and train them to actually support it.
