Azure Consultant

Solid for building Azure consulting skills
Pros: You'll work on diverse Azure projects, which is great for learning new cloud technology. As an Azure Consultant, I definitely picked up a lot of practical skills fast. It's a good place to deepen your expertise in the Microsoft ecosystem.
Cons: Formal career progression beyond senior levels isn't super clear. You really have to drive your own next steps, there's no set ladder. Mentorship can be inconsistent, especially being remote from Denver.
Advice to Management: Develop clearer career progression frameworks for consultants. Invest more in formal mentorship programs, especially for remote team members.

Decent Pay, But Benefits Could Improve
Pros: As a Cloud Consultant, the base salary for this Azure consulting role is pretty solid, especially for a mid-sized IT consulting firm. My pay felt competitive. We also get a decent 401k match, which is a plus for retirement planning.
Cons: I've found annual raises are often small, barely keeping up with inflation. The health benefits package isn't great, with pretty high deductibles. It just doesn't feel super competitive compared to some bigger tech companies for remote roles in cloud services.
Advice to Management: Focus on making health benefits more competitive and rethink the annual raise structure. These changes would greatly boost employee morale and retention.

Consulting means job security can be tough
Pros: The demand for Microsoft Azure consulting skills is huge, so there's always work if you're good. Projects are interesting and keep your skills sharp as a Cloud Engineer. It's a decent place for career growth overall.
Cons: Job security isn't its strongest point. When clients drop off, there's always a worry about bench time or potential layoffs. This is common for a mid-sized consulting firm, but it's still stressful.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent about the project pipeline and what 'bench time' really means for employees. Better communication can help ease some of the anxiety around job security.
