Mechanical Engineer

Decent flexibility for a corporate engineering role
Pros: For a large corporation, the work flexibility isn't bad. As a Mechanical Engineer, I usually get a couple of remote days each week, which is helpful. My manager is pretty understanding about personal appointments, which makes a big difference.
Cons: It's definitely not a fully remote setup. We have specific core days in the Brookfield, Wisconsin office, so you can't just work from anywhere all the time. Sometimes the hybrid work model feels a bit rigid, and it depends a lot on your specific team's needs.
Advice to Management: Consider allowing more flexibility for remote days beyond just the standard couple. It would really help with work-life balance and probably boost morale, especially for technical roles in the power tool manufacturing industry where focus time is key.

Decent Place, But Job Security Feels iffy
Pros: The pay and benefits are pretty solid for the power tool industry, and the onsite work environment in Brookfield, WI is usually pretty engaging. You get to work on cool new products with some smart folks.
Cons: Job security isn't as strong as I'd like, especially when the economy gets tough. There's a constant push for efficiency that sometimes makes you worry about headcount for Product Development roles. It feels like career growth for individual contributors can be really slow here.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication regarding long-term company stability and career paths to reduce employee anxiety about job security for key roles.

Solid Job Security, But Watch for Reorgs
Pros: It's a big company, so there's generally good job security in the manufacturing sector. As a Product Development Engineer here, you're usually on stable projects. They're a leader in the power tools industry, which helps.
Cons: Reorganizations can happen, which sometimes shifts teams around. While not layoffs, it can feel a bit unsettling when projects change or leadership moves things. It's an onsite role in the Brookfield, WI office, so there's limited work flexibility.
Advice to Management: Try to communicate internal changes, like reorgs or project shifts, more transparently and proactively. It helps ease employee concerns about their long-term roles.

Decent benefits, pay could be better
Pros: The health benefits are pretty solid here, and the 401k match is actually decent. As a Product Manager, I appreciated the company-provided tools too. For a large corporate employer in the manufacturing industry, they do a good job with the standard perks.
Cons: Honestly, the base pay for my role as a Product Manager is just okay, even for the Brookfield, WI location. Raises are slow, and I feel like I could make more doing similar work elsewhere. It's tough to feel valued sometimes when compensation lags behind.
Advice to Management: Take a closer look at market rates for key roles, especially within product development. Competitive salaries would help retain top talent.

Work-life balance is decent, but be ready for crunch
Pros: The pay and benefits are pretty solid for a large corporate. My team in the Brookfield, WI office was great and we sometimes hit a good 40-hour week. It's generally a stable place to work in the manufacturing industry.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough when you're an onsite Product Development Engineer. There are definitely times when long hours are expected, especially during critical new power tool launches. Flexibility isn't a strong suit here, so WFH options are really limited.
Advice to Management: Management should really look at more hybrid work options for roles that allow it. It would help a lot with burnout and employee retention. Try to better manage project timelines to avoid constant crunch times.

Good for learning, but growth is slow
Pros: You get solid experience working with power tools right out of the gate. The teams in the Brookfield, WI office are generally supportive, which is great for new hires.
Cons: Career growth is a real struggle for Product Development Engineer roles. Internal mobility within this big corporate structure isn't easy, so it's tough to advance or change departments. Sometimes you feel a bit stuck after a few years.
Advice to Management: Really focus on creating clearer career pathways for mid-level engineering roles. Make it easier for employees to move internally; it shouldn't feel like you have to leave the company to get a new opportunity.

Solid pay, but benefits could improve.
Pros: Base salary for engineering roles felt competitive, especially after a few years. They have a decent 401k match which is a plus. Bonuses were okay, sometimes unexpected in the power tools industry.
Cons: Health insurance plans aren't the best, high deductibles can sting. It's tough sometimes for onsite work as a Manufacturing Engineer, especially when you need time off. Could use better parental leave options too.
Advice to Management: Look into improving the health insurance options and making them more affordable. Also, review the parental leave policy to be more competitive with other major manufacturing sector employers.
