Solid Renewable Energy Role with Good Learning
Pros: As a Project Engineer at Vestas in Copenhagen, I appreciate the meaningful work in renewable energy. My colleagues are supportive, and there are good chances for professional development. It's a stable environment where I've learned a lot, which is great for my engineering career.
Cons: Career progression isn't always fast. Also, cross-departmental communication could be better, and some internal approval processes can feel a bit bureaucratic, slowing things down occasionally.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining internal communication channels, especially between different departments and global teams, to improve project efficiency. Consider reviewing career path structures to offer clearer and potentially faster progression opportunities for dedicated employees.

Hybrid work at Vestas is okay for Project Coordinators
Pros: It's nice that Vestas offers a hybrid model, usually 2-3 days WFH for Project Coordinator roles. This helps a lot with focusing on deep work without constant office interruptions. It's common in the renewable energy industry to see this.
Cons: The 'flexibility' often feels limited. You're still expected in the Portland, Oregon office pretty often, especially for project meetings that could easily be remote. True WFH days are harder to come by than advertised.
Advice to Management: Leadership really needs to rethink what 'flexible work' means. Trust your teams more with true remote work options when possible, especially for non-site-dependent engineering roles.

Decent Flexibility, But Depends on Your Team
Pros: I appreciate the hybrid work option available for many corporate roles in the Portland, OR office. It's nice to have some days working remotely, which helps with my commute as a Project Engineer. My team manager is pretty understanding if I need to adjust my schedule for appointments, which is a big plus in the wind energy sector.
Cons: The 3-day onsite requirement feels a bit rigid for a large corporate company, especially when some tasks could easily be done from home. There isn't much flexibility for core hours, so you're mostly stuck to a 9-5 schedule. It can be tough balancing work and personal life sometimes with these onsite demands for renewable energy projects.
Advice to Management: Consider allowing more remote days or flexible core hours for corporate positions, especially for Project Engineers. Trust your employees more with their time management.
