Tough leadership, great tech at this startup
Pros: The core technology in silicon photonics is truly innovative, which is exciting for a Photonics Engineer. You get to work on cutting-edge stuff that could change high-performance computing. Also, the team members are generally smart and supportive here in the Santa Clara office.
Cons: Leadership can be pretty inconsistent. Strategic direction shifts a lot, which makes long-term planning difficult for hardware engineering roles. Sometimes it feels like there's a lack of clear vision from the top, leading to wasted effort.
Advice to Management: Work on consistent communication and strategy. Empower middle management to make decisions and stick to them. Provide clearer guidance, especially for critical optical interconnect projects.

Culture is okay, but it's a typical startup grind.
Pros: People are really smart, especially in silicon photonics and optical interconnects. You learn a lot working here as a Hardware Engineer. The San Jose, CA office is pretty modern, and there's good free coffee and snacks.
Cons: Company culture feels a bit unstructured, sometimes chaotic. It's a true semiconductor startup environment, so be ready for that. Work-life balance is tough, especially with a lot of expected onsite work.
Advice to Management: Try to bring more structure and clearer communication across teams. This would help with project planning and reduce stress, making it better for everyone, especially for technical roles.
