Solid, but slow-moving corporate job
Pros: For an Applications Engineer, job security at Omron Automation is pretty solid. It's a big corporate company in industrial automation, so they aren't going anywhere, especially if you're onsite at the Schaumburg, IL office. You get a steady paycheck and decent benefits.
Cons: The downside is how slow things move sometimes. Career growth can feel stalled, and innovation isn't always top priority. There's not much room for quick advancement here.
Advice to Management: Try to speed up decision-making and create clearer paths for internal promotions. More investment in new technologies could help keep employees engaged.

Growth Potential is Okay, But You'll Work For It
Pros: You get solid exposure to lots of different industrial automation tech here, which is great for Applications Engineer skills. If you push for it, there are internal training resources, especially for new robotics or vision systems. I learned a lot about PLC programming just by being hands-on.
Cons: Vertical career growth can feel really slow. There's not much structured mentorship, so you have to figure out your next steps yourself. It's tough to move up unless someone leaves, which doesn't happen often in our Schaumburg, IL office.
Advice to Management: Create clearer pathways for promotions and invest more in formal mentorship programs for engineers. It would help retain talent.

Culture is okay, but a bit slow
Pros: The people here are really solid. As an Application Engineer, I've had great teammates who are always ready to help. It's an onsite role in Schaumburg, IL, so you build good relationships face-to-face. The collaboration on industrial automation projects is a huge plus.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit traditional, which sometimes slows things down. It's a big corporate environment, so expect some bureaucracy. It's tough to get new ideas through the system, which can be frustrating.
Advice to Management: Listen more to what employees want for modern work environments. Give teams more freedom to try new things. Speed up decisions to make the company culture feel more dynamic.
