Solid job security in petrochemicals
Pros: Job security is a major plus, especially in the petrochemicals industry. As a Process Engineer, I always felt stable, even during market ups and downs. The benefits package is also pretty solid for a big corporate environment.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough at times, with unexpected calls for refinery operations. There isn't much flexibility for remote work; it's mostly an onsite role in Houston. Career growth felt a bit slow compared to other companies.
Advice to Management: Try to improve work-life balance for onsite roles, especially for engineers handling critical refinery operations. More clear paths for career growth would also help retain talent.

Solid Job Security in Petrochemical Industry
Pros: LyondellBasell offers really solid job security, especially as a Chemical Process Engineer. It's a huge corporate giant, so you don't worry about layoffs much. We've got pretty good benefits too, which is a plus.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough at the manufacturing plant in Houston, TX. It's mostly onsite work, so there's not much flexibility. Career growth feels a bit slow sometimes too.
Advice to Management: Try to improve work-life balance and offer more clear paths for career growth, especially for engineers on the ground.

Hybrid work is okay, but needs more freedom
Pros: For administrative or R&D roles in the Houston office, there's a good hybrid model, often three days in office. As a Process Engineer, I can sometimes manage my field work schedule, which helps with personal appointments.
Cons: Real work flexibility is tough if you're directly supporting plant operations. Most of my time as a Process Engineer means I'm onsite, no real WFH options there. Even for hybrid roles, the set office days can feel restrictive.
Advice to Management: Consider more flexible core hours for office-based roles and explore any possibilities for remote support tasks for plant engineers when not physically needed on site. Trust employees more to manage their time.
