Stable Company with Strong Learning Opportunities
Pros: Being an Associate Scientist in the pharmaceutical industry at J&J has offered great stability and a chance to work on important healthcare projects. I've gained a lot from the learning opportunities and internal development programs. The company culture is generally supportive, and I value my colleagues in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Cons: Promotions can be a bit slower than expected, requiring patience and persistent networking. Sometimes, the large corporate structure means decision-making and approval processes take longer than ideal for a fast-paced scientific role.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining internal approval processes to empower teams and accelerate scientific development, and review promotion pathways for dedicated employees.

It's a stable, big corporate gig
Pros: Job security is generally solid here, especially for established roles. You don't often hear about huge layoffs across the board, which is comforting. As an Associate Marketing Manager, I felt pretty secure in my position in the New Brunswick, NJ office.
Cons: That said, company restructuring can feel sudden sometimes. While not layoffs, teams get reorganized, and your role might shift drastically. This creates a bit of uncertainty, even in a big corporate environment.
Advice to Management: Communicate big organizational changes more clearly and further in advance. It helps with morale and reduces anxiety among employees.

Good Benefits, Average Pay for Scientists
Pros: The health benefits are seriously good, which you'd expect from a major pharmaceutical industry player. The 401k match is pretty generous too, and it's nice having an employee stock purchase program as part of a Fortune 500 company.
Cons: My base salary as a Research Scientist wasn't anything special. It's not like it's low, but it's not super competitive for the cost of living here. Annual raises felt really standard, almost like clockwork, nothing exciting.
Advice to Management: Consider reviewing compensation bands for scientific roles to stay competitive with the broader biotech sector. Better transparency on salary growth could help too.
