Good Compensation for an Autonomous Vehicle Startup
Pros: As a Software Engineer here, the base salary is really competitive, especially for the autonomous vehicle industry. The RSUs are a nice perk too, though they take a while to fully vest. Health insurance and 401k matching are solid, pretty standard for big tech startups in Foster City, CA.
Cons: The vesting schedule can feel a bit long, especially if you're looking for quick payouts. Also, while the pay is good, the sheer cost of living in Foster City makes it feel less impactful. PTO isn't overly generous, could be better compared to some other tech companies.
Advice to Management: Consider reviewing the PTO policy to be more competitive. Also, explore ways to assist employees with the high cost of living in the Bay Area, perhaps through more aggressive stock grants or specific benefits.

Solid Compensation, Some Equity Questions
Pros: The base salary is pretty competitive for a Software Engineer here in the Bay Area. Being an Amazon subsidiary means the stock options are decent, which is a big plus. Health benefits package is also solid, covering most things you'd expect from a big tech company.
Cons: Equity refreshers feel a bit slow sometimes, especially in the fast-paced autonomous vehicle industry. It's tough to understand how performance bonuses are calculated. I've seen better 401k matching at other companies.
Advice to Management: Make the equity refresher schedule more transparent and consistent. Clearly communicate bonus structures to the team. A better 401k match would really help with retention.
