Good direct managers, but high-level leadership lacks.
Pros: My direct team leads in the London office are genuinely supportive. They're pretty good at guiding us as Software Engineers, especially with the complex core banking platform stuff. We get solid technical mentorship daily.
Cons: Upper management, though, feels a bit disconnected. Their decisions can sometimes come out of nowhere, especially for a rapidly scaling FinTech startup. Wish there was more transparency from the top down.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent with big decisions. Communicate changes clearly and early to all teams, especially in a hybrid work environment.

Leadership's a bit disconnected sometimes
Pros: The pay and benefits are pretty solid for a FinTech company in London. I've worked on some genuinely interesting projects with our core banking platform, which is great for a Software Engineer looking to build their skills.
Cons: Leadership often feels pretty disconnected from the day-to-day. Communication around strategic decisions for our engineering teams isn't always clear, and it can feel like a top-down approach without much input. It makes things confusing sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent with the teams, especially the Software Engineers building the core product. Listen to feedback from the ground level. Clearer communication about the direction of the cloud-native platform would help a lot.

Good Flexibility for a Growing Fintech
Pros: I appreciate the hybrid work model. As a Software Engineer, I get 2-3 WFH days a week, which really helps my schedule. The London office is great when you do go in, and it's nice to collaborate on our core banking platform.
Cons: While there's flexibility, it's pretty structured. You can't just pick any day to be remote, it's set. Sometimes I wish there was more freedom for technical roles to work fully remote, even if I'm in London.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more flexible remote options for experienced technical roles. Trust your people to get the job done wherever they are.

Good Tech, But Job Security Can Be Tricky
Pros: Thought Machine's cloud native core banking platform is really solid in the fintech industry. There's strong market demand, which helps keep the business stable, especially for key Solutions Architect roles. You learn a lot working here.
Cons: It's a hypergrowth startup, so things change fast, and job security can feel a bit up and down. There have been a few restructures in the London office, which makes you question long-term stability sometimes. It's not always clear where the company is headed strategy-wise.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication about company strategy and long-term plans. More transparency would help with employee confidence and job security feelings.

Leadership has a vision, but execution is tough
Pros: You're building a cutting-edge core banking platform, which is genuinely exciting as a Software Engineer. There are a lot of smart people here, and the initial vision from the founders is strong.
Cons: Leadership in the London office can feel a bit disconnected from day-to-day engineering challenges. Decisions often get re-evaluated, which really slows down progress on our cloud-native banking system. Middle management sometimes struggles for clear direction.
Advice to Management: Improve communication across departments and empower team leads more. Try to stick to decisions once they're made to avoid rework.

Fast-paced but job security is a worry
Pros: You get to work with some really smart people on a cutting-edge core banking platform. Great for a Software Engineer looking to pick up new skills. The London office had a good buzz, and the perks were decent.
Cons: Job security has been a concern for a while, especially with recent layoffs across the fintech industry. It's a fast-moving startup, so things change quick. Sometimes that means shifts in priorities without much heads-up, which feels unstable. The hybrid model for work can be a bit rigid too.
Advice to Management: Management needs to be more transparent about the company's direction and future plans. It would really help calm nerves about job security and help people focus. More communication on strategy would go a long way.
