Pay is okay, but benefits are solid
Pros: Health insurance is pretty good here, especially for a growing tech startup. We get decent PTO and a 401k match, which is nice. As an Account Manager, I felt the overall benefits package was a strong point.
Cons: Base salary growth isn't great, especially compared to the Austin, TX market. Don't expect huge bonuses for hybrid work. It's tough to get a significant raise without switching roles.
Advice to Management: Regularly review salaries against market rates, especially for key roles like Account Managers in competitive markets. Transparency on bonus structures would also help employee motivation.

Job Security Feels A Bit Shaky Here
Pros: The projects for us Software Engineers are usually interesting. There's good exposure to new tech stacks here. Plus, the hybrid work model is a nice perk for many.
Cons: Job security isn't its strong suit for this mid-sized tech company. There have been several rounds of layoffs, which makes folks nervous. It's tough to plan your career path when things feel uncertain.
Advice to Management: Transparency around business decisions would really help. Also, think about employee retention strategies beyond just project work.

Leadership at Thrive is quite inconsistent
Pros: My direct manager was great. They supported my career growth and gave solid feedback. Some of the team leads in the engineering department are genuinely invested in their people. That's a huge plus for a fully remote setup.
Cons: Upper leadership can be really out of touch. They make big decisions without explaining the 'why' to the fully remote engineering teams. This impacts project stability and frankly, job security. It's hard to feel confident in the company's long-term vision in the health tech market.
Advice to Management: Communicate more openly, especially about strategic shifts. Involve individual contributors and team leads in early discussions. Understand the on-the-ground impact of your decisions.

Decent Flexibility, But Can Be Inconsistent
Pros: They offer a pretty solid hybrid model, which is nice. As a Software Engineer, I got two WFH days a week. It definitely helps with the commute in the San Francisco office.
Cons: But switching teams or projects can mess with your schedule. Some managers are less flexible about WFH than others. It's not always consistent across the tech startup.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize remote work policies across all teams. It would help with consistency for employees, especially in a growing tech company.

Growth is okay, but you gotta push for it
Pros: The tech stack is pretty modern; we work with cool cloud technologies. As a Software Engineer, I got to jump on different projects and learn new things, which is good for junior engineers. The team itself in the Austin, TX office is generally collaborative.
Cons: Formal career growth paths aren't super clear here. It's not a big tech company with a defined ladder, so promotions feel slow. Management doesn't always proactively guide your development, which makes advancing tough.
Advice to Management: Establish clearer promotion criteria and development plans. Proactively work with employees on their career trajectory instead of waiting for them to demand it. This would greatly help retention.
