Decent Work-Life, Can Get Busy
Pros: As a Customer Service Representative in the Melbourne office, the hybrid work model helps a lot. It's nice to have some WFH days, which really cuts down on commute time. For roles in the telecommunications industry, the regular 40-hour weeks are pretty standard and manageable.
Cons: Sometimes the queues are just crazy, and it's tough to leave exactly on time. There's a lot of pressure to hit metrics, which can impact your ability to truly disconnect at the end of the day. It's a big corporate environment, so things can feel a bit rigid.
Advice to Management: Try to manage call volumes better or provide more support during peak times. It would help a lot with employee burnout.

Hybrid model works for my tech role
Pros: As a Network Engineer, I get 2-3 days WFH, which is great for avoiding the Sydney commute. It's a solid perk in the telecommunications industry and really helps with my work-life balance.
Cons: There's not much flexibility beyond the set hybrid schedule. Some managers are quite strict, and it's tough to adjust hours or go fully remote even for specific needs. It's a large corporate, so bureaucracy limits true individual work flexibility.
Advice to Management: Encourage managers to offer more autonomy and flexibility where possible, especially for experienced professionals. Trust your employees more.

Technical Support Specialist

Career Growth is Slow for Tech Support Roles
Pros: For a large telco like Telstra, the job security is solid. You get exposed to a lot of different tech issues in the telecommunications industry, so you're always learning new things. The hybrid work model is also a plus, offering some flexibility.
Cons: Career growth for Technical Support Specialist roles can feel really limited. It's tough to move up without a degree or deep internal networking in the Sydney office. The big corporate structure means promotions are slow and competitive.
Advice to Management: Invest more in clear career pathways and training for frontline technical roles. It would help retain talent if there were more opportunities to advance internally without needing external qualifications or specific university degrees.
