Work-life balance is okay, but depends on projects
Pros: As a Software Consultant in the Dallas, TX office, some projects were pretty good for work-life balance. I often got my 40 hours done, especially with some hybrid work options. It's nice when you land an easy client.
Cons: But then other IT consulting projects were brutal. Long hours and weekend work were common to meet deadlines. It really eats into your personal time, and it's tough when you're deeply embedded on a client site.
Advice to Management: Try to enforce stricter boundaries for client demands. Support project managers more in pushing back on unrealistic timelines, especially in engineering services roles.

Work-Life Balance Is Okay, Depends on the Project
Pros: Some engineering projects let you stick to 40 hours, which is nice. When you're not on a critical client site, the flexibility is decent. For the Plano, TX office, sometimes you can swing a hybrid model.
Cons: Other times, as an IT Consultant, you'll be pushing long hours. Deadlines on client sites can get really intense, and it eats into your personal time. There's not much consistency across different assignments.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize workload expectations across all client projects. Support consultants more when client demands are unreasonable.

Leadership can be inconsistent in IT consulting
Pros: You get to work on a lot of different tech projects, which is good for gaining new skills as a Software Engineer. Some project managers are great and really supportive. It's a large consulting firm so there's usually work.
Cons: Leadership here is pretty inconsistent, especially within the IT consulting model. Some managers don't really know how to advocate for their team members. It's tough to get clear direction sometimes from management in the Austin, TX office.
Advice to Management: Invest more in consistent leadership training for all project managers across the board. Improve internal communication, especially on employee advocacy. Make sure managers are truly supporting their teams.
