Solid Place for Software Engineers in Insurance Tech
Pros: As a Software Engineer at Applied Systems, I've found a stable environment in insurance technology. The hybrid work model from our University Park, IL office is a big plus for flexibility. My team is supportive, and there are good opportunities to learn new skills on complex software.
Cons: Career progression, especially promotions, can feel slow. We also deal with legacy systems, which aren't always engaging and can prolong project approvals. Don't expect rapid advancement.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining promotion processes and modernizing some legacy tech.

Great Place for Insurance Tech Professionals to Grow
Pros: I've really enjoyed my time as a Software Engineer at Applied Systems in University Park, IL. It's a solid company in the InsurTech industry, and there are good opportunities to learn and develop new skills, especially if you're keen on insurance-specific software. The teams are generally supportive, and I appreciate the hybrid work model which offers a good balance. Benefits are competitive, especially the health plans.
Cons: While the stability is great, internal processes can sometimes feel a bit slow or bureaucratic, which can impact project velocity. Also, sometimes communication from upper leadership could be more transparent, particularly during organizational changes. It would help teams understand the bigger picture better. Some of our legacy systems can also be a challenge to work with.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining some of the internal approval processes to boost efficiency. More consistent and proactive communication from senior leadership, especially during strategic shifts, would also be beneficial to keep everyone aligned and informed.

Hybrid Model Works Okay, Room for More Flexibility
Pros: The hybrid model is pretty solid here. I work remote from the Chicago area a few days a week. It's good for appointments and managing personal stuff, especially as a Technical Support Specialist.
Cons: Still, it feels like they could offer more true remote options. Not everyone lives near the University Park, IL office. Some days you just have to be in, even when your work as a Technical Support Specialist doesn't really require it. The focus on traditional office hours can be tough, even in the insurance software industry.
Advice to Management: Consider truly expanding remote opportunities for roles that don't require daily onsite presence. Trust employees more to manage their time and locations efficiently, as it really helps with morale and work-life balance.

Tough to grow your career here
Pros: The pay and benefits are decent for an insurance technology company. You get solid job security here, which is nice. Remote work is also a big plus for work-life balance.
Cons: Career growth is really slow as a Software Engineer. There aren't many opportunities to move up or try new tech, especially for technical roles. It feels like a big corporate place with slow internal movement.
Advice to Management: Create clearer paths for career advancement for Software Engineers. Invest more in internal training and skill development in insurance technology. It would help retain talent.

Solid company if you're looking for stability
Pros: Job security is pretty solid here. As a Software Engineer working remote from home, I haven't worried about layoffs. They're a big player in insurance software, so there's always work.
Cons: Growth can feel a bit slow sometimes. The corporate structure makes it tough to move up fast. Don't expect rapid promotions or huge salary bumps every year.
Advice to Management: Try to create more clear paths for career advancement. Employees want to see opportunities to grow and not just stay in one spot for years.

Leadership has some major room for growth
Pros: It's a pretty stable corporate environment, which is reassuring. As a software engineer, I worked on interesting projects in insurance technology. My team in the Chicago office was supportive, which helped a lot.
Cons: Upper leadership often shifts direction without clear communication. Decisions sometimes feel arbitrary, making it tough to see the bigger picture. There's a disconnect between executive strategy and daily operations.
Advice to Management: Listen to feedback from all levels, not just direct reports. Provide clearer strategic direction and stick to it more consistently. Better communication on changes would really help everyone working on the insurance platforms.

Culture is changing, some good, some bad.
Pros: I've met some genuinely great people in my team. There's a strong sense of camaraderie among the frontline support staff. We help each other out daily, especially navigating issues with our various insurance software products.
Cons: The corporate culture can feel very top-down. Decisions often come from on high without much explanation, which impacts morale. You don't always feel heard, and there's a lot of bureaucracy, which is common in a big tech company.
Advice to Management: Listen more to the people on the ground. Be more transparent about changes, especially when they impact daily workflows. Support the teams better when new initiatives are rolled out.
