Culture's fine, but changes are tough right now

Working at Keyloop as a Software Engineer has its ups and downs. The teams are great for collaboration and learning, especially in automotive retail software. However, the company culture feels pretty uncertain right now, and leadership needs to step up their communication game.

Pros

As a Software Engineer, I've worked with some really smart people here. The team collaboration is generally solid, and we do get good learning opportunities, especially in automotive retail software. Hybrid work setup is decent and offers good flexibility.

Cons

The company culture has felt a bit shaky lately. There's a lot of uncertainty, and leadership doesn't always communicate changes well. It's tough when you're working on new features for our dealer management systems without a clear direction.

Advice to Management

Focus on clearer communication regarding company direction and upcoming changes. Employees need to feel more secure and understand the overall vision, especially when working on critical dealer management systems. Better transparency would go a long way.

Leadership has its moments, some areas need work
Pros: The teams I've worked with are solid. There's good camaraderie among staff, especially in the London office. We're also working on interesting challenges in automotive retail software, which keeps things engaging.
Cons: Leadership can feel a bit disconnected from daily operations. It's tough when decisions shift without much explanation, impacting project timelines. Sometimes you wonder about the bigger picture and long-term vision from upper management.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent with your team. Better communication on strategy would help everyone, especially us Project Managers trying to align efforts. Connect more with the people on the ground.

Hybrid work is okay, but could be better
Pros: The hybrid model is a decent step for a mid-sized tech company in the automotive retail tech space. We get 2 WFH days a week, which helps with commute to the London office. It's good to have some flexibility for personal appointments too.
Cons: The mandated 3 days in the office feels a bit rigid for a software engineer role. Sometimes there's not a clear reason to be onsite, especially if your team is remote. It's tough to get full remote work, even for senior roles.
Advice to Management: Consider more flexibility beyond the 3-day office rule, especially for certain roles that don't need constant physical presence. Trust employees more to deliver from anywhere.

Pay is okay, but could be better.
Pros: They offer a decent pension plan, which is a solid plus. For a corporate environment in automotive software, the overall benefits package isn't terrible, especially the healthcare options. There's a feeling of stability.
Cons: The base salary for a Software Engineer here in the Marlow office feels a bit low compared to current market rates. Raises aren't huge, and sometimes it feels like pay doesn't fully match the workload, especially when working on complex dealer management systems. Compensation isn't very competitive.
Advice to Management: Regularly review compensation packages to ensure they are competitive with the broader tech and automotive software industries. Invest more in base salaries and performance-based bonuses to retain talent, especially for key technical roles.
