Company Reviews

Made Tech is on a mission to use technology to improve society - for everyone. We help organisations transform, deliver and manage world-class digital products and services.

Today, you can see our services (and people!) in action, such as the design and build of the Homes for Ukraine service, delivered in 2 weeks. We’re helping local authorities make it easier and quicker for people to log housing repairs online. By digitalising access to NHS services we’re making it more accessible, such as children needing mental health support.

All this great experience is enabling us to support new areas, like energy. We’re helping to drive better environmental outcomes by improving network performance through real-time asset monitoring, which means less wasted energy.

We were recently named as a finalist in the Raising the Bar for Workplace Transparency Award in the Shift People Awards. This is a recognition of our many great initiatives, such as our open-access employee handbook that we launched 5 years ago.

Decent perks, but pay lags market
Pros: The remote work flexibility is genuinely great here; it's a huge plus for my work-life balance. Benefits like private health insurance and the learning budget are solid, especially for a public sector IT consulting firm. They really encourage skill development in digital transformation.
Cons: Honestly, the salary for a Software Engineer feels a bit low compared to what similar roles pay in the broader UK tech industry. Annual pay increases are pretty small, so it's hard to keep up with inflation or market rates. The total compensation package just isn't that competitive.
Advice to Management: Really review compensation for all engineering roles. We're losing good people because the pay isn't keeping pace with the market, especially for those working on critical public sector tech projects.

Solid Flexibility for Remote Technical Roles
Pros: The work flexibility here is genuinely great. I've worked fully remote from Manchester since starting, and managing my own schedule as a Software Engineer is a huge plus. It helps a lot with my personal life, especially for those in digital public services projects.
Cons: Sometimes it feels like there's a bit of a disconnect from what's happening in the London office. Collaboration can be a little tough when everyone's on different flexible schedules. It's not always easy to sync up on tight deadlines.
Advice to Management: Try to find more ways to foster team connection and synchronous collaboration without sacrificing the core flexibility. Maybe scheduled "deep dive" sessions for remote teams.

Decent benefits, but salaries could be better
Pros: As a Software Engineer, the benefits package is pretty solid. You get a good pension match and private health insurance. The remote-first policy is also a huge plus for work-life balance.
Cons: The actual salaries for digital services roles aren't always competitive with bigger tech firms. There's not much room for big pay bumps without changing roles entirely.
Advice to Management: Review salary bands for Software Engineer roles to stay competitive. Invest more in clear pathways for salary progression within current roles.
