Decent Benefits, Pay Could Be Better Here
Pros: The health benefits package is really solid. I've always felt secure with the pension plan too, which is typical for a government agency. Plus, the hybrid model helps with work-life balance.
Cons: As a Project Coordinator, the salary sometimes feels a bit low for the workload. Annual raises can be pretty modest, not always keeping up with inflation or the private sector. You might find better pay in the private transportation infrastructure sector.
Advice to Management: Review salary bands for mid-level roles like Project Coordinator. It's important to keep compensation competitive with market rates, especially in the Greater Toronto Area.

Hybrid Model is Okay, But Could Be Better
Pros: You get a hybrid work option, typically 2-3 days WFH, which is helpful. It's a decent setup for many office-based roles within this large corporate structure, especially if you're not in operations.
Cons: The 'hybrid' part can feel a bit rigid sometimes; you're often tied to the Toronto office. It's not truly flexible if you need to adjust your WFH days easily. This makes work-life balance tough for some.
Advice to Management: Really trust employees to get their work done remotely. Don't make office days mandatory just for the sake of it, especially for roles like a Project Coordinator. Focus on output, not seat time.

Hybrid model is okay, but needs improvement
Pros: There's a pretty decent hybrid model now. I get to work from home a few days a week, which is a big plus for work-life balance. For some of the more planning-focused roles, like as a Transit Planner, you do get a bit more flexibility when not in the Toronto office.
Cons: It's not truly flexible for everyone though. Many operational roles in public transportation still have to be largely onsite, which isn't ideal. The WFH days are set, so you can't just pick and choose, limiting real autonomy.
Advice to Management: Focus on empowering teams to decide their own hybrid schedules instead of top-down mandates. Real flexibility improves morale and makes Metrolinx more competitive for talent, especially in areas outside core transit operations.
