Culture's fine, but things shift quickly here.
Pros: Loved the energy and smart people at this fintech startup. The remote work environment really helps with flexibility, which is a huge plus. We had some good team events, even virtual ones.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit chaotic sometimes. Priorities for us as Software Engineers changed fast, making it tough to finish projects. Also, the overall direction wasn't always clear.
Advice to Management: Try to stabilize priorities more often. Clearer communication about the long-term vision would really help engineers stay focused and feel more secure.

Work-life balance is a real mixed bag
Pros: Remote work from my home in Austin definitely helps avoid a commute. I appreciate the flexible PTO policy, especially for a tech startup like this. You get good ownership over your core engineering tasks.
Cons: As a software engineer, on-call rotations are pretty demanding and can really mess up your personal time. There's a constant push for delivery in this fast-paced e-commerce payments industry, leading to some long weeks. It's not uncommon to put in 50-hour weeks.
Advice to Management: Try to better distribute on-call responsibilities and set more realistic sprint goals to improve the overall work-life balance for engineering teams. Recognize that sustained long hours lead to burnout.

Leadership has some good ideas, but execution...
Pros: The engineering teams are really smart and collaborative. I learned a lot working with different payment integrations. The remote work flexibility is a big plus for many.
Cons: Leadership changes direction too often and it's tough to get real clarity on projects. This is especially true for remote software engineer roles. Communication from the top can feel pretty vague and inconsistent.
Advice to Management: Focus on clear, consistent strategy and communication. Empower middle management more to execute without constant shifts from above.
