Junior Electrical Engineer

Leadership Can Be Hit or Miss
Pros: I've learned a lot, especially working on complex engineering projects. Some of the senior engineers and project leads are super supportive, they really help you grow as a Junior Electrical Engineer. The hybrid model offers some flexibility.
Cons: Upper management's decisions sometimes feel out of touch with what's happening on the ground. Communication from the top isn't always clear, which can cause confusion for teams in the Toledo office. There's inconsistent guidance across different departments.
Advice to Management: Work on clearer, more consistent communication from the executive level. Empower team leads with more autonomy but also provide better training for effective management across all groups.

Career Growth Can Be Slow Here
Pros: You get to work on some pretty big industrial facilities projects, which is great for learning the ropes in the AEC industry. There's a lot of different work types if you're proactive.
Cons: Moving up as a Junior Mechanical Engineer is tough. There aren't many clear paths, and it feels like promotions are few and far between, especially in the Toledo office. Mentorship could be stronger for developing skills beyond day-to-day tasks.
Advice to Management: Create more defined career paths for entry-level engineering roles. Invest in formal mentorship programs to help young engineers advance faster, especially within the industrial facilities sector.

Okay Work-Life, Depends on Project Demands
Pros: The work-life balance here can be pretty good for an Electrical Engineer when projects are running smoothly. I appreciated the option for hybrid work, it made scheduling personal stuff in the Toledo, Ohio office much easier. Most of the time, I could stick to my 40-hour weeks.
Cons: When you hit big project deadlines in this engineering consulting firm, expect long hours. It's tough to take PTO if your project is behind, which really impacts work-life balance. Sometimes the workload isn't distributed very evenly.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project schedules and resource allocation to prevent last-minute crunches. It would help a lot if leadership promoted real downtime more often.
