Work-Life Balance is Okay for Engineering Roles
Pros: The team is generally supportive and you learn a lot about civil engineering here. They do try to offer some flexibility if you really need it, which is good for the Dayton office.
Cons: Expect busy periods, it's the nature of engineering consulting. As a Civil Engineer, you're often putting in extra hours to meet project deadlines for infrastructure projects. It can be tough to completely unplug some evenings or weekends.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project loads and client expectations to prevent burnout for engineering staff. Encourage disconnecting more after hours, especially during crunch times.

Okay Work-Life, Depends on Your Project
Pros: It's decent for entry-level civil engineering roles. You can usually stick to 40-hour weeks if you manage your projects well. The hybrid work model helps a lot with flexibility.
Cons: Project deadlines can get really tight, especially for structural design. That means some weeks you're pulling longer hours, and it's not always consistent. The Columbus office feels a bit understaffed at times.
Advice to Management: Try to better distribute workloads across the civil engineering and structural design teams. More consistent staffing would reduce crunch times for us.

Pay is Okay, Benefits are Solid
Pros: The health insurance plans here are pretty good, which isn't always a given in the industry. We've got a solid 401k match too, which helps for those long-term savings. For a mid-sized firm, the benefits package is definitely a pro.
Cons: However, the actual base pay for a structural engineer in the Dayton, OH office can feel a bit low compared to market. Raises don't come super fast, so negotiating hard upfront is key. Don't expect huge bonuses either.
Advice to Management: Look at competitive market rates, especially for experienced structural engineers. Better salary progression would help with retention, as good people often leave for higher pay.
