Hybrid Work Is Okay for Technical Roles
Pros: I really like the hybrid work setup here, usually 2 days in the Buffalo office. As a Software Engineer, having that option makes a big difference. You can shift your start/end times easily, which is a huge plus.
Cons: Some managers aren't really on board with true flexibility, so it's team dependent. Project deadlines often mean you're working extra hours, making flexible hours tough. Full remote options aren't available for everyone in the manufacturing industry.
Advice to Management: Make sure all managers understand and apply the flexible work policies consistently. It shouldn't depend on who your boss is.

Leadership at Allient needs clearer direction
Pros: Some managers, especially in the Amherst, NY office, genuinely try to support their teams. They're open to new ideas if you can prove the ROI. For Manufacturing Engineer roles, there's always interesting project work.
Cons: Top leadership can feel pretty disconnected from day-to-day operations. Decision-making is slow in this mid-sized corporate setting. It's tough to get clear answers on company direction, which affects everyone in the engineered solutions industry.
Advice to Management: Focus on better communication from the top down. Give teams more autonomy and trust. Streamline the decision-making process; it's a real bottleneck.

Job Security is a Real Concern Here
Pros: The onsite work means you get to really know your team. As a Manufacturing Technician, I learned a lot about industrial automation and the processes here. The benefits were pretty solid for the industry too.
Cons: Job security really isn't great. Layoffs happened a few times while I was there, and it felt pretty sudden. It makes you worry about your future even if you're doing a good job. The corporate environment can feel a bit impersonal when those decisions come down.
Advice to Management: Be more transparent about company performance and future plans. It would really help calm nerves about job stability.
