Okay flexibility for a government contractor
Pros: I liked the job security you get in the defense sector. There's a pretty solid team culture if you're onsite. They do allow some hybrid work, which is nice for a big corporate environment.
Cons: The "hybrid" part is pretty strict, usually just one day WFH. As a Software Engineer, more remote work would be huge. It's tough to get real work-life balance when you're mostly office-bound.
Advice to Management: Consider expanding remote work options, especially for technical roles like software development. Trust your employees more.

Decent Benefits, Pay Could Be More Competitive
Pros: The health insurance benefits are solid, definitely a perk for the defense industry. As a Systems Analyst, I found the 401k match pretty good too. They offer a decent amount of paid time off.
Cons: Base pay feels a bit low compared to other companies in the Huntsville, AL office, especially for the workload. There isn't much room for significant salary bumps outside of promotions. Wish the annual bonuses were more substantial.
Advice to Management: Review market rates for specific roles, especially for technical staff in the Huntsville, AL area, to stay competitive. Invest more in performance-based bonuses.

Okay for some roles, tough for others
Pros: The job security is solid here, especially with our government contracts. You don't usually worry about layoffs. The benefits package is pretty decent for a mid-sized contractor. For engineering roles, there's always interesting work to do.
Cons: Work-life balance can be a real challenge, especially in the Huntsville, AL office for some projects. Expect longer hours during crunch times. Flexibility isn't great; most of us are onsite for cleared work, so WFH is rare.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize workload expectations across different government contracts. Support managers in pushing back on unrealistic deadlines to prevent burnout for technical staff.
