Decent work-life balance in big tech
Pros: Work-life balance here is generally good, especially for Software Engineer roles. We have a solid hybrid work model, so I'm not always in the Seattle office. Teams usually respect boundaries, which is nice in big tech.
Cons: Sometimes project deadlines get tough, and you'll work extra. There's not much flexibility for fully remote, which can be a bummer. The travel industry can have unexpected surges, impacting workload.
Advice to Management: Offer more options for fully remote work for certain roles. Try to smooth out those peak season workloads better.

Culture is Decent, But Can Be Slow
Pros: I've worked in the Seattle office as a Software Engineer for a while. The people are genuinely nice, and there's a good emphasis on collaboration across teams in this big tech environment. It's a supportive place if you like working with diverse global teams in travel tech.
Cons: The corporate culture can feel pretty slow, especially for new initiatives. Sometimes bureaucracy makes it tough to get things done, which isn't ideal for engineers trying to innovate. You don't always feel that fast-paced energy you expect from a tech company.
Advice to Management: Try to cut down on some of the red tape that slows down innovation. Empower teams more to make quicker decisions within the travel tech space.

Work-Life Balance is Okay, Team Dependent
Pros: For many Software Engineer roles here, the hybrid model works well. You get WFH days which is a huge plus for personal time. The general benefits package in this big tech company is solid too, especially for travel tech employees.
Cons: There are definitely crunch times, especially in travel tech before big releases. Some managers expect more than 40 hour weeks, making it tough to disconnect. This isn't unique to the Seattle office, but it's present and can impact your personal life.
Advice to Management: Managers should be more consistent with respecting boundaries. Encourage true disconnect time after hours, even for critical projects in our online travel agency business.
