Manufacturing Engineer

Work-Life Balance is Okay, Not Great
Pros: The pay and benefits are decent for an onsite role in the Sidney, Ohio office. You get good job security working for a big, established company. Most weeks you can stick to 40 hours, which is nice.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough as a Manufacturing Engineer. You often have to put in extra hours to meet production deadlines. Remote work flexibility is pretty limited here, which isn't ideal.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to reduce the pressure on engineering teams during peak production. More hybrid options would really help with employee retention and overall morale.

Hybrid Model is Okay for Corporate Roles
Pros: It's nice that we have a hybrid setup for us corporate folks, especially for a big company in the manufacturing industry. I could WFH two days a week, which helped with childcare. This setup was decent for most marketing specialist tasks.
Cons: But those two WFH days weren't always respected; sometimes you'd get pulled in. There's not much flexibility beyond that hybrid schedule. You can't just shift hours around if something comes up, which is a real bummer.
Advice to Management: Consider allowing more true flexibility with hours, not just WFH days. Empower teams to manage their schedules better, especially for roles like marketing specialist where outcomes matter more than face time.

Pay is alright, benefits could be better
Pros: The 401k match is solid, and there's a pension, which is rare these days for Manufacturing Engineer roles. For a large corporate company, the base salary felt competitive, especially given the cost of living in Sidney, Ohio.
Cons: Health insurance premiums are super high, eating into take-home pay. Don't expect huge annual raises; they're usually pretty small. It's tough when you're working in compressor manufacturing and seeing those costs rise.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the health insurance plans and work on reducing employee contributions. Small annual raises don't really keep up with inflation, so consider more competitive increases.
