Pros: I've generally found the scheduling team pretty understanding for my Direct Support Professional role. They often try to work with you if you need to swap shifts or have specific days off. For client care roles in Harrisburg, PA, that's a big plus.
Cons: Sometimes last-minute changes happen, which can mess with your plans. And there isn't really a hybrid option for many of us on the front lines; it's strictly onsite. Weekends can be mandatory which isn't always ideal.
Advice to Management: Try to reduce those last-minute schedule changes. It really impacts people's ability to plan outside of work.

Pros: I've worked as a Direct Support Professional in the Harrisburg, PA office for a while. The team in human services here is pretty supportive, which helps on tough days. You can often swap shifts with coworkers if something comes up.
Cons: Work-life balance can be really tough, especially with on-site work and constant call-outs. You often end up working mandatory overtime because of understaffing in direct care roles. It's hard to plan anything outside of work sometimes.
Advice to Management: Management needs to seriously address the understaffing issues for Direct Support Professionals. Hiring more staff would reduce mandatory overtime and improve work-life balance for everyone in direct care.

Pros: You can usually swap shifts with other Direct Support Professionals, which is a big help for last-minute issues. They do try to work with you on scheduling requests for full-time direct care roles, especially if you plan ahead here in the Harrisburg, PA region.
Cons: True work from home isn't an option for direct care staff, which is expected since it's an onsite role. Getting your exact preferred schedule for human services can still be tough sometimes, even with good notice.
Advice to Management: Keep working on staffing levels so it's easier to grant schedule requests without impacting coverage. More options for part-time Direct Support Professionals would help a lot.
