Stable work in the defense industry
Pros: For a Systems Engineer, you get to work on significant space programs. The job security is really good with all the federal contracts. There's a decent benefits package, which is a big plus.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit slow and bureaucratic sometimes. It's not the most innovative environment; decisions often take a while. It definitely doesn't feel like a fast-moving tech company.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage more agility and empower teams for faster decision-making. There's a lot of potential to modernize processes for technical staff.

Solid Entry Point, Slow Career Progression
Pros: You get to work on some really interesting projects in the space industry. It's a stable, corporate environment, and job security feels pretty good. As a Systems Engineer, I learned a ton of foundational skills.
Cons: Career growth can be incredibly slow here, especially for early to mid-career aerospace professionals. Promotions don't come easily or quickly. The compensation isn't top-tier compared to other aerospace engineering roles outside of government contracting.
Advice to Management: Please create clearer paths for advancement and development for aerospace engineering staff. Quicker recognition for hard work would also boost morale. Invest more in career development programs.

Solid place for aerospace engineers
Pros: Work-life balance is generally good for a Systems Engineer in the aerospace industry. I've found that project deadlines are usually reasonable, and managers often encourage taking PTO. The hybrid work model helps a lot for personal appointments, making the El Segundo office commute less of a daily grind.
Cons: Sometimes during critical government project phases, you're expected to put in extra hours. It's not constant, but it can be tough to predict when those crunch times will hit. There isn't always a lot of flexibility when you're tied to secure lab environments.
Advice to Management: Keep pushing for consistent work-life balance across all departments. Recognize that not all roles can be fully remote, but offer flexibility where possible to avoid burnout, especially during intense project periods on government contracts.
