Manufacturing Engineer

Great Culture and Collaborative Environment
Pros: Working as a Manufacturing Engineer at this medical device company has been a solid experience. The company culture here in San Diego, CA truly promotes teamwork; colleagues are supportive, and I've learned a ton from my peers. It's an onsite role, which I appreciate for building strong relationships and keeping projects on track.
Cons: The approval processes for new manufacturing initiatives can sometimes feel a bit slow, which occasionally causes minor delays. Also, cross-departmental communication could be improved to streamline things further.
Advice to Management: Continue to foster the collaborative company culture and look for ways to streamline approval processes to empower teams. Improve inter-departmental communication for greater efficiency.

Decent Pay, But Job Security Feels Shaky
Pros: The pay for a Manufacturing Technician is pretty solid, and the benefits package is decent for a big healthcare company. I've had steady 40-hour weeks working onsite in the San Diego office, which is a plus.
Cons: Job security here is my biggest concern right now. With all the recent mergers and acquisitions in the IVD industry, there's always talk of layoffs, and it's tough for many lab operations roles. Communication from leadership about our future has been pretty vague, making it hard to plan.
Advice to Management: Management needs to be more transparent about the company's long-term plans and how the restructuring impacts employees, especially those in manufacturing and lab operations. Clearer communication would really help calm people's nerves and improve morale.

QuidelOrtho Culture: It's Evolving
Pros: I like my immediate team; we really support each other, especially as a Clinical Affairs Specialist. There's a strong sense of purpose working in the diagnostic industry, which keeps you going. The hybrid model is pretty solid too, giving good flexibility.
Cons: The overall company culture feels a bit disconnected, especially since the merger. There's a lot of bureaucracy, making it tough to get things done quickly for medical device projects. Communication from senior leadership isn't always clear, which can be frustrating.
Advice to Management: Focus on better integration post-merger and streamline processes. Clearer communication from the top would help a lot with employee morale.

Stable, But Slow Career Growth for Lab Roles
Pros: It's a really stable company, which is great for job security in the medical diagnostics industry. My colleagues are solid, and the benefits package is decent. You can rely on consistent work as a Clinical Lab Scientist.
Cons: Career growth is pretty much non-existent for lab professionals. You hit a ceiling fast, and it's tough to find internal promotion opportunities. The San Diego office doesn't seem to prioritize upward mobility for scientists.
Advice to Management: Please create clearer career paths and more development opportunities for lab professionals. It would help retain talent if there was a real chance to move up.

Pay Is Okay, Benefits Are Solid
Pros: The benefits package here is really good. I got a solid 401k match and the health insurance, important for someone in the medical diagnostics industry, was comprehensive. For a big corporate company, it's a decent setup.
Cons: Base pay as a Quality Control Specialist in the San Diego, CA office feels just average. Annual raises are pretty small, so your salary doesn't really keep up with inflation. It's tough if you're looking for significant pay bumps without switching roles.
Advice to Management: Look at the pay bands for mid-level roles. Retention could improve with better salary growth, especially for those who consistently perform well and stay with the company.
