Leadership has big vision, but it's intense
Pros: I've learned a ton here, working on complex financial technology products. The top brass has a clear vision for Toss as a big tech company, which is kind of motivating. Pay for software engineer roles is pretty solid.
Cons: Leadership, especially middle management, can be really demanding. They push for long hours, making work-life balance super tough in the Seoul office. Communication often feels very top-down, not collaborative for onsite teams.
Advice to Management: Try to empower team leads more and encourage genuine feedback from individual contributors. Recognize that intense demands can lead to burnout, especially for developer roles in a fintech setting.

Fast-paced Fintech, Flexibility is Lacking
Pros: The Seoul office itself is pretty modern and has good amenities. You learn a ton if you're into the mobile payments space. They're good about providing necessary tech and resources.
Cons: For a Software Engineer, work from home is barely an option here. It's mostly an onsite expectation, making work-life balance tough. The 'hybrid model' isn't very flexible in practice for many teams.
Advice to Management: Seriously consider more remote work options for your engineering teams. True work flexibility would really help retention in the competitive fintech industry.

Hybrid model is okay, but could be better
Pros: I like the option for a hybrid model, it's 3 days in the Seoul office which isn't too bad for a big fintech startup. You can manage personal appointments on WFH days sometimes. It's better than being full onsite.
Cons: For a Software Engineer, true remote work isn't really an option. It feels like they're pushing more for office presence lately. Flexibility isn't consistent across all teams or roles, especially if you're in a critical backend development role.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more options for remote work, especially for experienced engineering roles. Standardize flexibility policies across departments so it's fair for everyone.

Pretty good WLB for a growing fintech.
Pros: As a software engineer here, the work flexibility is a big plus. You can usually get your work done without constant micromanagement, which helps with personal life. We have decent WFH options available for those days you need them.
Cons: However, during big product releases or new feature integrations in the mobile payments sector, expect longer hours. The pace in the Seoul office can be intense, and it sometimes impacts your evenings.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project timelines so developers aren't always rushing. Encourage real breaks and disconnect after hours to prevent burnout. More clear communication on expectations for after-hours availability would help too.

Fast-paced but culture needs adjustment
Pros: The pay and benefits are really solid for a Software Engineer in the Korean fintech industry. You get to work on cutting-edge payment app tech, which is great for career growth. There's always a new challenge, so you learn a ton quickly.
Cons: The company culture can feel pretty competitive, almost like a pressure cooker sometimes. Work-life balance is tough to maintain, especially for junior engineers in the Seoul office. It's hard to get genuine feedback or mentorship from senior leadership.
Advice to Management: Try to foster a more collaborative culture instead of a purely competitive one. Implement better mentorship programs for new hires in the fintech development teams.
