Beacon AI is an aviation software company based in Silicon Valley, building advanced systems that serve as a pilot assistant for commercial and defense aviators - think R2-D2 for pilots.
We go beyond traditional autopilot, providing a reliable onboard teammate that enhances safety, efficiency, and situational awareness in a hardware-lite package.
Our mission is to shape the future of flight by equipping pilots with intelligent tools that adapt to complex environments and evolving missions. We’re solving some of aviation’s toughest challenges, from cockpit workload and data overload to predictive safety and autonomous decision support.
Beacon is backed by leading investors, including Costanoa Ventures, Scout Ventures, Sam Altman (via Apollo Projects and Hydrazine Capital), JetBlue Ventures, and Mischief. Our work is also guided by seasoned aviation leaders, including Hon. Robert Sumwalt (former NTSB Chairman) and Ali Bahrami (former FAA Associate Administrator for Aviation Safety).
Our AI Assistant works alongside pilots as a Safety Net, Coach, and Superhuman.

Pros: It's a hot field, so there's always demand for solid Machine Learning Engineers. We're working on some cutting-edge artificial intelligence projects, which feels stable for now.
Cons: Being a startup, things can shift fast. You always have that low-level worry about funding rounds or pivots in the AI industry. It’s not like big tech where job security feels guaranteed.
Advice to Management: Be more transparent about financial health and future plans, especially when it comes to new funding rounds. It would ease a lot of anxiety for remote employees and those in technical roles.

Pros: The founding team has a clear product vision, which is cool for an AI startup. They're good at hyping up the company's direction. We got some solid funding rounds too.
Cons: Senior leadership often makes sudden pivots without much explanation to the engineering teams. As a Machine Learning Engineer, it made planning our sprints really tough. Communication could definitely be better, especially on big decisions.
Advice to Management: Work on clearer communication. Involve middle management more in big decisions before they're announced company-wide. It really helps the teams understand the 'why' behind strategy changes and keeps morale up.

Pros: As a Data Scientist, I got to dive into some really interesting Machine Learning challenges. The remote work setup is great, giving you flexibility to learn on your own time. You'll definitely pick up new skills just by doing the job at this tech startup.
Cons: There's not much structure for career progression, which can be tough. I felt like I had to constantly ask for new responsibilities to advance in the AI industry. Formal mentorship programs or dedicated training budgets aren't really a thing.
Advice to Management: Create clearer growth paths for roles like Data Scientists. Invest in some mentorship for junior folks. A dedicated training budget would help a lot.
