Data Scientist

Decent work-life balance, but it can vary.
Pros: I've found the hybrid model helps a lot for personal appointments. As a Data Scientist, I generally get my machine learning projects done within a 45-50 hour week, which isn't too bad for an AI startup. PTO is pretty standard and easy to use.
Cons: There are definitely crunch times, especially before big product launches. It's tough to fully disconnect when you're working on tight deadlines in the San Francisco office. Sometimes the pressure for results creeps into evenings.
Advice to Management: Try to manage project scope better to avoid last-minute crunch periods. Encourage teams to take their full PTO and truly disconnect.

Pay is solid, benefits could be better.
Pros: The base salary for a Data Scientist is pretty competitive, especially for a growing AI startup. They offer unlimited PTO which is a nice perk, though it's tough to really use it. The 401k match is decent.
Cons: Healthcare benefits felt a bit stingy for the San Francisco market. The hybrid work model is good, but they don't cover gym memberships or provide much for wellness beyond basic EAP. Stock options felt pretty diluted.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the health insurance plans and overall wellness benefits to be more competitive, especially for a San Francisco tech company. It'll help with retention.

Okay Pay for an AI Startup Role
Pros: As a Software Engineer in AI development, the base salary was pretty competitive for a startup in San Francisco, CA. The health benefits package was solid, covering most essentials. They also had a small 401k match.
Cons: The annual bonus structure isn't very clear or generous compared to bigger tech companies. Stock options are fine, but the vesting schedule felt slow. Don't expect huge raises or rapid pay increases.
Advice to Management: Management should really look at making the bonus program more transparent and competitive. Also, re-evaluate the stock option grants for AI engineers to attract top talent in this industry.
