Manufacturing Engineer

Decent place for manufacturing, culture needs work
Pros: As a Manufacturing Engineer here, the work is pretty steady. We produce critical fiber optic components, so there's always demand. The benefits package for onsite staff in Hickory, NC is also solid.
Cons: Company culture can feel a bit old-school. There's not much room for new ideas, especially if you're not in a leadership role. It's a very 'do it the way we've always done it' kind of vibe, which can be tough for innovation.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage more input from lower-level staff. It'd boost morale and might even spark some real innovation in our production processes for fiber optic components.

Decent stability, but watch your hours
Pros: The job security for fiber optic interconnects is really strong here; it's a stable industry. For onsite work at the Hickory, NC plant, the benefits package is pretty good, and the pay is competitive.
Cons: Work-life balance can be a struggle. It's tough to stick to 40-hour weeks, especially as a Manufacturing Engineer. Sometimes, you're expected to stay late to handle production issues.
Advice to Management: Try to put better boundaries on work hours, especially for engineers and production staff. It would really help with burnout and morale.

Manufacturing Technician

Pretty Standard Manufacturing Job, Low Flexibility
Pros: The work for optical components is steady, which is nice for job security. My team in the Hickory, NC office was pretty solid too, good folks to work with daily.
Cons: Work flexibility here is almost non-existent for Manufacturing Technician roles. You're always onsite, and the shift schedule is super strict. Don't expect any WFH options or much wiggle room with hours.
Advice to Management: Consider offering some kind of flexible scheduling or at least understanding for personal appointments, especially for long-term employees. It's tough when you're always chained to the manufacturing plant.
