Project Manager

Work-life balance is decent, but be ready for crunch
Pros: Work-life balance can be decent, especially in the Toronto office during slower periods. I found that as a Project Manager, I had some flexibility for hybrid work, which helped. PTO is okay, and you can generally take it if you plan ahead.
Cons: When construction projects hit crunch time, expect long hours and weekend work. There's a lot of pressure to meet tight deadlines, and it's tough to truly disconnect. It's an onsite heavy role sometimes, so work-from-home isn't always an option.
Advice to Management: Improve project planning and resource allocation so Project Managers aren't always scrambling. Staffing up during peak construction projects could really help prevent burnout.

Flexibility Varies Greatly by Manager
Pros: Some managers really get it. They're okay with hybrid schedules for corporate roles. The company offers some basic work-from-home days, which is helpful for construction project management tasks.
Cons: It's just super inconsistent across departments. If your manager isn't flexible, you're pretty much stuck, as there aren't many company-wide policies for Project Coordinators. True remote work isn't really an option, even for roles that seem like they could be.
Advice to Management: Standardize work flexibility policies across all corporate roles, especially for those in the construction industry. Empower managers but provide clear, consistent guidelines for hybrid or remote options.

Solid benefits, but average pay for my role
Pros: The benefits package is actually quite good. We get decent health, dental, and vision coverage. It's nice to have that security for a large general contractor like Flynn.
Cons: My base salary as a Project Engineer feels a bit low compared to the market in the Greater Toronto Area. Raises aren't huge, so it's tough to really get ahead financially. Pay isn't super competitive here.
Advice to Management: Review Project Engineer salaries to be more competitive. It's hard to attract top talent with current compensation. Value your people more.
