Financial Data Analyst

MSCI: Decent for some, tough for others
Pros: As a Financial Data Analyst, the hybrid work setup was a solid plus; I could work remote a couple of days a week from my NYC apartment. The pay and benefits are pretty competitive for the financial services industry, which is good. You also get to learn a lot if you're proactive.
Cons: Work-life balance can be really hit or miss. There's definitely an expectation to put in extra hours, especially around project deadlines, which can stretch past 50-hour weeks. It's a large corporate structure so sometimes career growth feels slow.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize expectations around work hours across teams. It would really help with employee burnout and improve overall work-life balance for all roles, not just some.

Okay work-life for tech roles, but can vary.
Pros: The hybrid schedule is a big plus, letting me work from home a few days. For Software Engineer roles, you usually don't have to pull all-nighters. Most weeks were standard 40-45 hours.
Cons: Some project deadlines in the fintech industry can get pretty intense, pushing for longer hours. It's not always consistent, and team leads can have different expectations. Vacation approval can sometimes be slow.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize expectations around working hours across different teams and make vacation approval more streamlined. Support managers in promoting a healthier work-life balance for all employees.

Decent Pay, Benefits Need a Boost
Pros: The base salary for a Data Analyst in the New York, NY office was pretty competitive, especially for early career financial services professionals. You're getting a solid paycheck. The standard healthcare package is decent, covering the basics well.
Cons: Don't expect huge bonuses or exceptional stock options; it's a corporate setup. The 401k match isn't super generous compared to some other big investment services firms. I felt the parental leave could definitely be more robust.
Advice to Management: To really attract and retain top talent for data and ESG research roles, consider boosting the 401k match and beefing up the parental leave policy.
