Hybrid model is decent for Engineers
Pros: The hybrid model at Cadence is pretty solid. As a Software Engineer, I get a few WFH days each week, which really helps with personal appointments. It's a decent setup for folks in the EDA industry looking for some flexibility.
Cons: Sometimes it feels like WFH days are more 'on-call' than truly flexible. There's pressure to be available even outside core hours. It's not fully remote, so you still have to commute to the San Jose office often.
Advice to Management: Refine the hybrid policy to ensure WFH days are genuinely flexible, not just extended office hours. Clearly define expectations for Engineers.

Decent place for career, but watch your hours.
Pros: Many teams offer good WFH flexibility, which helps a lot. For us in the EDA software division, the hybrid model often works well. You can usually get your 40-hour weeks done if you manage your projects smartly.
Cons: Sometimes project deadlines in chip design mean long stretches. It's not uncommon to put in 50+ hours during critical phases. Leadership could do better managing scope to protect employee time.
Advice to Management: Really focus on realistic project scoping, especially for critical EDA development projects. Better resource allocation would help prevent burnout and improve employee retention in the San Jose office.

Okay flexibility, but watch the core hours
Pros: The hybrid model is a decent perk here at Cadence. As a software engineer, I appreciated the flexibility of working from home a couple days a week. It really helps avoid the brutal Silicon Valley commute.
Cons: But honestly, the core hours are pretty rigid. It's not truly flexible if you're stuck to a strict 9-5 schedule even with WFH days. For a big tech company in the semiconductor industry, I'd expect more autonomy.
Advice to Management: Consider loosening the strict core hours, especially for roles that don't require constant onsite collaboration. Trust your engineers more with their schedules.
