Hybrid Model Decent for Absa Group
Pros: I really liked the hybrid model. It's a huge benefit for roles like mine in the financial services industry. We could typically work from home two or three days a week, which really helped manage my personal life while based in Johannesburg.
Cons: The hybrid setup wasn't always consistent across teams. Some managers really pushed for more onsite time, which sometimes contradicted the official policy. This inconsistency made planning a bit tough for remote work sometimes.
Advice to Management: Standardize the hybrid work policy across all departments. Make sure all team leads are on board with promoting genuine flexibility, especially for roles where remote work is effective.

Leadership's fine, but room for improvement
Pros: The pay and benefits are solid for the financial services industry, especially for a large corporate like Absa. My base salary was decent, and the health plans were good. There's job security here, which is a big plus. You don't often worry about layoffs in the Johannesburg office.
Cons: Leadership can be a bit disconnected sometimes. As a Financial Analyst, I've seen a lack of clear direction from senior management on major projects. It makes things tough. It feels like they don't always listen to feedback from the ground level. Decisions often come down without much explanation, which is frustrating for team morale.
Advice to Management: Work on improving communication channels from the top down. Actively solicit and act on feedback from employees, especially those in roles like Financial Analyst. More transparency would help.

Culture's okay, but don't expect quick changes
Pros: The teams I've worked with are usually supportive. There's a decent sense of community within our specific corporate banking department. It's a solid place for stability in the financial services industry.
Cons: Decisions move really slowly, which can be frustrating. Sometimes new initiatives get lost in the corporate bureaucracy. Innovation isn't always a top priority for junior Financial Analyst roles here.
Advice to Management: Try to speed up decision-making processes. Empower teams to implement changes more efficiently. Focus on rewarding new ideas and fostering a more dynamic environment.
