Subsea Engineer

Okay for a start, but career growth is slow
Pros: The pay is pretty competitive for a Subsea Engineer in the offshore energy industry. You get to work on some genuinely interesting marine robotics projects sometimes. The benefits package is solid, which is a nice perk.
Cons: Career advancement feels really slow here. There aren't many clear paths to promotion, and you often have to wait for someone to leave. It's tough to get recognized for your work in this large corporate environment, which can be frustrating.
Advice to Management: Create clearer career development plans for engineers and invest more in internal mentorship programs. Help employees see a path forward within the company.

Okay flexibility, but not truly hybrid
Pros: You get a set schedule, which is good. The standard 40-hour work week is usually respected, which is a plus for work-life balance in the subsea engineering field. They technically offer a hybrid model, but it's rarely used.
Cons: That hybrid model? It's mostly a myth for Project Engineer roles. You're expected onsite more often than not at the Houston office. It's tough to get real work flexibility when projects demand constant presence.
Advice to Management: Management needs to actually implement the hybrid policy for Project Engineer roles. Don't just offer it on paper if we can't use it. Trust your team more for remote work.

Solid company, needs more modern flexibility
Pros: You get to work on some pretty cool subsea robotics projects. There's good job security in the offshore oil and gas sector. Benefits, especially health insurance, are decent for a corporate environment.
Cons: Work flexibility is tough, with strong onsite requirements for my Electrical Engineer role. It feels like leadership is slow to adopt hybrid work, even for tasks that could be done remotely. This really impacts work-life balance.
Advice to Management: Really consider improving work flexibility options for all eligible roles. Trust your teams more with remote or hybrid work. It would greatly help with morale and attract new talent in this competitive industry.
