Account Manager
3.0

Pay is okay, but benefits need a serious boost.
Pros: The base salary for Account Manager roles is decent for the sector, and the unlimited PTO is a solid perk. It's a growing tech company, so there's always new stuff happening which can be exciting.
Cons: The health insurance plans are pretty basic, not very comprehensive, and the dental coverage is weak. The 401k matching isn't competitive, it's definitely an area ACV Auctions needs to improve to attract top talent.
Advice to Management: Really look at improving the overall benefits package, especially health, dental, and 401k. Better benefits would go a long way in retaining and recruiting skilled professionals for the auto auction industry.

Inside Sales Representative

Pay is okay, but commission can be tough.
Pros: The base salary for an Inside Sales Representative at ACV Auctions is actually pretty good for the Buffalo, NY area. Health benefits are solid too, which is a big plus. It's nice that they offer a 401k match, showing they care about employees' futures.
Cons: My biggest gripe is the commission structure. For sales roles in this automotive tech industry, it can feel really hard to hit those high targets on their digital auction platform. Raises don't come around very often either. It's tough to feel truly rewarded for all the effort sometimes.
Advice to Management: Look into making the commission plan more transparent and attainable for sales teams. Frequent, smaller raises would also help with retention.

Decent Place, But Job Security Is Tricky
Pros: The actual product is super strong, a game-changer in the used car market. I've learned a ton about automotive remarketing and working in a fast-paced startup environment. The sales team in the Buffalo, NY office is pretty supportive.
Cons: Job security as a Sales Representative can feel really unstable at times. There are frequent reorganizations, which leaves you wondering about your role. The leadership sometimes shifts priorities too quickly, impacting our goals.
Advice to Management: Try to be more consistent with strategy and internal structures. It really affects morale and job security for the sales roles when things constantly change. Clear communication helps a lot.

Pretty Okay Flexibility for Sales Reps
Pros: The remote work for Sales Representatives is a huge plus. Being able to manage my dealer partnerships from my home in Texas was convenient. It’s solid for anyone in the used car auction space who values WFH.
Cons: However, true flexibility is often limited. I found myself needing to be available constantly, impacting my work-life balance. The startup environment means expectations for availability are high, even for remote work.
Advice to Management: Managers should stick to the stated flexible work arrangement policies more consistently. Give remote employees clearer boundaries for 'off-hours' communication. Also, ensure tools support genuine work-life balance for those managing dealer partnerships remotely.

Software Engineer

Okay for now, career growth is slow
Pros: The team here is really supportive, especially as a Software Engineer. I get to work on interesting projects in the automotive auction industry. It's good exposure to the vehicle marketplace overall, which is a plus.
Cons: Career progression isn't clearly defined. There aren't many opportunities for promotion, even for senior engineers. I've seen folks stay in the same role for years with little upward mobility.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career paths and offer more training for advancement. Help your employees see a future here beyond their current role.

Field Sales Representative

Leadership has some good points, some bad.
Pros: I really liked the remote work flexibility; that was a big plus for my schedule. My direct manager was usually solid and pretty supportive when I needed help. They do try to innovate in the auto auction industry, which is cool to see.
Cons: Upper leadership can feel a bit disconnected from day-to-day operations. Strategic decisions often feel rushed for Field Sales Representatives, without much input from the ground. Communication about company direction isn't always clear, which makes things tough.
Advice to Management: Try to get more regular feedback from employees, especially Field Sales Representatives, before making big strategic shifts. More transparent communication from the top down would really help everyone feel more aligned.
