Pros: I've been with Ferguson for a few years as a Sales Representative in the Houston, TX region. The health benefits are actually pretty good, like dental and vision. The 401k match is also solid for a large wholesale distribution company. It definitely helps a lot.
Cons: Base salary for Sales Representative roles isn't super competitive. It's tough to really make good money without hitting huge commission targets. Sometimes raises feel pretty small, even with good performance for the plumbing supplies division.
Advice to Management: Consider reviewing the base salary structure for Sales Representatives to attract top talent. More transparency on commission tiers would also help employees feel more valued.

Pros: It's a solid 40-hour week most of the time. As a Project Coordinator, my days are pretty predictable in this large distributor setting. You get decent benefits and paid time off, which helps when you need a break.
Cons: Sometimes you get pulled into urgent issues, especially on the HVAC distribution side, which can stretch the day. It's an onsite role, so there's no WFH flexibility for my position. That makes work-life balance a bit tougher to manage when things pop up.
Advice to Management: Try to give Project Coordinators more tools to manage unexpected issues without extending their workdays. Also, consider hybrid options where feasible for some roles, even if it's just a day or two a week.

Pros: As an Inside Sales Representative, there are decent internal training programs if you seek them out. It's a large corporate environment, so there's a lot of structure and process which can be helpful. You do learn a lot about the plumbing supply and HVAC distribution industry.
Cons: Career progression for sales roles can feel really slow. You're often stuck in your role for years unless someone above you retires or leaves. There isn't much proactive mentoring, especially in the Dallas, TX office, so you have to really push for your next step.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer paths for advancement, especially for those in non-management sales roles. Implement a mentorship program for career development.
