Okay Flexibility for Engineers, but Site Work Dominates
Pros: For office-based tasks as a Mining Engineer, there's a decent hybrid work model. You can often work a few days from home in the Perth office, which helps with personal appointments. It's good to have that option for planning.
Cons: However, if your role involves direct mining operations, like mine planning or site visits, remote options are pretty limited. You're expected on location at the Western Australia sites a lot. This makes true work-life balance hard when you're constantly traveling or living on site for shifts.
Advice to Management: Try to find more ways to offer flexibility for those in operational roles, even if it's compressed work weeks or more structured RDOs. Remote technology could help reduce some site visits for reporting or meetings.

Okay Flexibility for a Mining Giant
Pros: For us office folks in Perth, you can sometimes get a hybrid work arrangement. It's usually 2 days WFH, which is pretty solid for a big corporate player in the mining industry.
Cons: But if you're a Mining Engineer out on a remote site, there's basically zero work flexibility. It's strictly onsite, often fly-in/fly-out. That makes work-life balance tough for anyone in site-based roles.
Advice to Management: Try to offer more flexible work options even for operational support roles. It's a competitive market for skilled professionals, and flexibility is key for retention.

Solid Pay, Workload Can Be Heavy
Pros: The pay and benefits are really competitive for a large corporate. I got a decent base salary and performance bonuses. They also offer some good opportunities for career development in the resources industry.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough as a Mining Engineer, especially during project deadlines. It's not uncommon to put in longer hours in the Perth office. Remote work options are limited for core operational roles, which can make it hard to juggle personal life.
Advice to Management: Try to implement more consistent boundaries for project timelines and empower teams to manage their workload better to prevent burnout. Consider more flexible arrangements where possible for office-based roles.
